The pace of the story\, the change of episodes\, the sudden action\, the pregnant pause; these are beats of the story\, the beats that soothe the crying baby or wake it straight up. Percussionist DAVID ALDERDICE and author CRAIG CHILDS will be your instructors\, teaching as a duet on how to create and find your own rhythm in story\, poem\, or essay. \nStudents will bounce back and forth between musicality and the craft of writing. With David\, you will explore solkattu\, traditional rhythmic vocalizations from southern India\, along with frame drums\, and a selection of exotic instruments. Stepping and clapping patterns will embody the rhythm inside you\, and it can come out in whatever you do\, be it drumming\, driving\, walking\, or writing. \nWith Craig\, you will turn rhythm into words and story. DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 7 pm and the concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door.  Tickets and info. \nThe Embodying Rhythm Marimba Ensemble plays soulful\, uplifting\, groovy\, polyphonic music. Besides original compositions\, they play their renditions of traditional tunes from Africa\, Europe\, and the Americas\, along with a sprinkle of choice modern tunes and Alderdice’s arrangements of a few classic holiday tunes. At the ensemble’s foundation is a 4 & a 1/2 octave set of beautiful wooden marimbas (including a really big bass marimba)\, featuring some woodwinds\, brass\, percussion\, and a little bit of singing for a broad and engaging musical experience. It’s sure to be a delightful musical program for the whole family\, so bring a friend. \nThe ensemble is excited about their new debut album featuring ten original compositions by David Alderdice and one original composition by Matt Drbohlav as well as a couple of traditional tunes from Zimbabwe and South Africa. Their live shows feature some tunes from the album as well as some choice modern covers along with some original and exploratory arrangements of music from Africa\, North and South America\, Europe\, and the Caribbean. \nMembers in the ensemble include Arlyn Alderdice\, David Alderdice\, Daniel Be\, Jeannette Carey\, Matt Drbohlav\, Rebecca Drbohlav\, Dylan Fixmer\, and Jen Sanborn. The group formed in 2015 after the Alderdice’s decision in 2014 to purchase a Zimbabwean style tenor padauk marimba made for traditional ensemble playing rather than a chromatic rosewood marimba made for solo classical performance. The marimbas are relatives of the traditional thumb piano of the Shona people called the mbira dzavadzimu. \nmore information
