DESCRIPTION:North Fork Valley Embodying Rhythm Marimba Project Unveiled\nOn November 15th\, 2014 there will be a fundraiser concert at the Blue Sage in Paonia for the North Fork Valley Embodying Rhythm Marimba Project featuring marimbas and more! \nThe Project is brought to you by The Learning Council a 501(c)3 non-profit\, so all proceeds from the evening and silent auction will be tax-deductible.  Tickets are $15.00. The goal of the evening is to complete matching the funds donated by the Kampe Foundation for the purchase of a bass marimba\, baritone marimba\, and lead soprano marimba. This class is great way to open the door to rhythm and music or continue your musical development. A great way to learn rhythm\, melody and harmony all at once. Be part of a super fun world music ensemble while deepening your relationship to music\, art\, and life! All experience levels welcome. \nThree things students will learn in this class are: \n1) Students will learn a variety of marimba parts and percussion parts and how they all fit together within the ensemble. A foundational hands-on look will be given to the rhythm fundamentals required to play music with others\, such as pulse\, beat-placement\, and subdivisions.  \n2) As part of ensemble playing the students will learn the application of active listening\, how to groove deeper\, and how to support each other within the music by realizing the sum is much greater than each individual part.  \n3) Many universal artistic concepts will arise and be learned as well – such as balance\, eye hand coordination\, pattern recognition\, syncopation\, ratios\, and musical polarities.

We will explore many musical and rhythmic concepts that arise while playing music with others. We will also make and/or find percussion instruments out of common found objects.\n\n\nThe Harmony Gang seeks to be a joyful\, engaging music-making experience for young people who like to sing.  Designed as a continuing study to basic musical theory\, vocal and ear training\, and performance skills. Singing with the chorus gives children a forum to work together to bring to life music of great beauty and to share this achievement with others. This process of ensemble music making cultivates our members’ sense of responsibility\, commitment\, self-discipline\, confidence\, and poise\, key ingredients for success in any field of endeavor. Students will be encouraged to appreciate high standards of artistic excellence and to cultivate a love of beauty that can enrich each individual’s experiences for a lifetime. \nThe students will learn:\n\n1) The basics and applications of playing in a musical ensemble.\n2) Some ideas\, techniques\, concepts\, and applications of becoming comfortable with musical improvisation.\n3) Active listening through matching pitch\, call and response games\, and the synchronization of beat placement\, as well as experiencing some cultural music diversity through exposure to vocal and rhythmic ensembles from around the world.
