Dear Ones,
Greetings and Salutations.
We hope that this email finds you at peace with yourself in this moment.
Things with us have been good, very full. Arlyn’s pregnancy is progressing well and we are very grateful for that. She’s been cleaning, sewing, walking and doing yoga and other nest-building activities. Thank you for the love and support for this new life to come into the world. It is incredible to be so supported by the community.
David has been spending a lot of time learning and practicing marimba tunes and arranging and hangin’ out with his after-school music program at Hotchkiss High School as well as coaching the percussionists at the Hotchkiss K8 and teaching marimbas to the 5th,6th,&7th graders at the Blossom Valley Waldorf Initiative.
Speaking of marimbas….our new marimba arrived last month and we are super INSPIRED! It’s been so much fun learning songs and playing marimba music. We want to share it with everyone – we would love to bring marimba programs to the schools and libraries and other such places (Hotchkiss High School and Blossom Valley School are already on-board and starting to learn parts). We’d also love to start a community ensemble. However, a traditional ensemble has at least 7 marimbas and we currently have only one. We just today put in an order in for a second which is exciting because one of the neatest things about the marimbas is how all the different parts fit together simultaneously.
So, we’re looking at funding possibilities for MORE MARIMBAS. If you would like to participate click on “donate” or mail a check to “Embodying Rhythm”, 35003 Hanson Mesa Road, Hotchkiss CO 81419 with “marimba fund” in the memo field for any amount. We will be partnering with the Learning Cooperative a 501(c)3 non-profit, so if you need your donation to be tax-deductible, make your check payable to “The Learning Cooperative” with “marimba fund” in the memo. Most of the marimbas for an ensemble are between $1100 and $1400 with the baritone around $2,500 and the bass around $4,000, these are gorgeous performance quality wooden instruments hand-made in Santa Fe, NM. We’re getting our ducks in a row to apply for grants, but the grants want to see that we already have support for our project, so any little bit that you can offer will help. More info here.
Also, we wanted to share a taste of one of David’s musical projects the Sea Stars from a live performance at the Arise festival this summer. Click here to view the video on youtube. Click here for the new album (David plays percussion on it and we like it lots!)
Below is a list of a few upcoming performances, we hope to see you soon.
love to you,
Arlyn and David
