Movement as Medicine – An Experiential Dance Practice

Looking to feel at peace in your body? Want to experience a healthy stress release? Want some time to commune with your deepest self? Your tears are welcome, your strength is welcome – come and move with us! We will dance our way home to ourselves. This is a moving, expressive, dynamic, transformational practice.

The full details are now on Arlyn’s Website, go straight there: www.arlynalderdice.com/somatic_dance

Somatic dance is about the felt experience of the mover, it’s not about looking any particular way. And while there is time and invitation to move as you would like to, there’s a map that we follow and invitations to deeper inquiry that are offered gently by the facilitator throughout the movement practice. It’s not a partner dance and there are no dance moves taught; the music and facilitation evokes different styles of movement that look different in each body. I call it Movement as Medicine.

In her book, “Move: How the New Science of Body Movement Can Set Yourself Free,” author Caroline Williams notes that “On average, we now spend 70% of our time sitting or lying around.” She also notes that “core strength is linked to stress control.” As well as citing studies on how good dance is for our bodies and our emotional health –> it’s a good time to move.
