Late August Update

August 28, 2020 by ladyarlyn

Hello Dear Ones,

We hope you are doing well. We have been switching our family focus from multi-day summer backpacking trips in the mountains to being down in the valley more, homeschooling and jumping on all the garden harvesting and food processing and land chores which are in full force right now.

If you or anyone you know is interested in learning drums or percussion or is wanting to deepen your/their relationship with music, David is now officially offering private on-line music lessons through Skype or Zoom or whatever. He is also available for private lessons. He is offering in-person lessons outdoors in Hotchkiss as well as the online lessons. For more information on lessons, contact David: david@embodyingrhythm.com

There are a few more backpacking found percussion videos that David has to share. The newest ones are bones with sticks, trowel and tp on a rock, wilderness boundary fence post with tent stakes, and dried glacier lilly seed pods. Here is a link to those videos.

The one gig that the Embodying Rhythm Marimba Ensemble was able to play this summer was as a part of the Paradise Fest, which is a virtual fundraiser for our local music venue, the Paradise Theatre (which is the same venue that is home to our World Music in Paradise Concert Series). In this 17 minute live set, you will see what we’ve been up to and hear a medley of 3 new original tunes, 2 versions of original tunes from our album, and 2 traditional tunes. It was recorded outside of Hotchkiss in mid-July and was just released virtually on Wednesday, August 26. You’ll notice a new member, Rose Costello, thanks to Rose for jumping in! We feel so grateful to be able to play and create and share this music.  Click here to go straight to the new Paradise Fest video of the Embodying Rhythm Marimba Ensemble on youtube.

Here is a little more information about the other great local artists performing virtually for Paradise Fest as well as the fundraising aspects for the Paradise Theatre. Starting Monday, August 24, The Paradise Theatre will be streaming (via Facebook & Youtube) Paradise Fest Videos. Musical acts to be featured are the Embodying Rhythm Marimba Ensemble, Hard Pressed, David Starr, Joe Alan, Ford & Fitzroy, Gabrielle Louise, Lily Lowe (student), and father son duo of Elliott (student) and Jon Hickam. Watching the videos are absolutely free. At any time over the next month, if you are called to support some local musicians and our small local venue, you can make a donation to your favorite artists and venue; 50% of the proceeds will go to the musicians & the other 50% will benefit the Paradise Theatre. Any donations that the Embodying Rhythm Marimba Ensemble gets will go toward the recording of our 2nd album which has been delayed due to covid, but we are ready to record once we find a good place to set up all our instruments and recording gear for a few weeks. And the Paradise will use any donations that they receive to keep live music happening in rural Colorado with their World Music in Paradise and Pickin’ in Paradise Concert Series offerings.

best wishes,
Arlyn and David

“All of us, at some time or other, need help. Whether we’re giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring to this world. That’s one of the things that connects us as neighbors—in our own way, each one of us is a giver and a receiver.” – Fred Rogers
