February Update

February 6, 2019 by ladyarlyn

Dear Ones,

We hope you are doing well.

David has been busy composing new pieces for our marimba ensemble and Arlyn is busy trying to figure out how to navigate the earth plane better – getting to preschool on time, washing the dishes, mopping the snowmelt off the floor, and trying to get down to a reasonable amount of stuff in the house. A couple of resources that Arlyn has been finding useful: clutterbug.me, Marie Kondo’s work as well as Journal Me Organized by Rebecca Spooner.

A butterfly found its way into the drum room this week and we are breathing in it’s magic, even if it is a little too early for spring.

And this is a friendly reminder to reach out to those that you love and let them know how you feel.

blessings,
Arlyn & David

Birdwings

Your grief for what you’ve lost lifts a mirror
up to where you are bravely working.

Expecting the worst, you look, and instead,
here’s the joyful face you’ve been wanting to see.

Your hand opens and closes and opens and closes.
If it were always a fist or always stretched open,
you would be paralyzed.

Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding,
the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated
as birdwings.

20 person Gamelan Orchestra next weekend and September Update

September 10, 2018 by ladyarlyn

Dear Ones,

Well, school has started and while the days are still warm, we can start feeling a touch of the cool fall winds in the air and a few of our trees are already turning colors. Hooray for sauerkraut, fresh apples, tomatoes and the late summer/early fall bounty.

We look forward to a 20 person Balinese Gamelan orchestra on September 21st as the first concert on the World Music in Paradise season. Gamelan is not something that you get to see every day here in rural Colorado and it will transport you to a different time and place. There is a workshop on Saturday September 22nd so that you can try playing Gamelan too. Please come out and support bringing World Music to the North Fork Valley. Also, please contact us if you are interested in information about sponsoring the World Music in Paradise series. Thanks to everyone who came out for Latcho Drom and made that evening a success!

These next three months are going to be very full of music and music offerings for us, please see the list below or full list here on our website. David is drumming for Celebrate the Beat at all three North Fork Valley Schools as well as in Crested Butte and Arlyn is offering a women’s drumming class in September (two spots left, details here) and a marimba class series in October. We will also be busy preparing and performing some other great concerts that we have on the books. We hope that you are doing the things that offer your gifts to the world as well as rejuvenating your spirit through doing the things that call you.

blessings,
Arlyn and David

Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

~Mary Oliver
