Dear Ones,

Thank you for helping make the Musical Caravan concerts a success. What fun to tour around the musical globe. We are hoping to find a way to do a CD recording of some of that material at some point later this year.

We have been having a somewhat quiet February working on the unveiling of all the fun offerings we have coming up this spring and summer (and for next year’s World Music concert season). Just in March, David will be offering 5 in-school outreach concerts, 6 evening performances, 13 days of in-school residency, 3 after-school programs, and a weekend of puppet workshops, in addition to everything else he stays busy with like rehearsals, private teaching, writing new music, and being papa.

We look forward to unveiling our full summer offerings soon complete with marimba concerts, parades, summer-camps, and more. We have some dates at the bottom of the Upcoming Events list and will have full details soon.

Wednesday, March 1st – David leads 2 inspirational in-school musical outreach concerts featuring the Grizzly Pears and the NFV Community & Parade Band at the Crawford Montessori School at 10:00am and at Paonia Elementary School at 2:00pm.

Monday, March 6th through Wednesday, March 22nd – Embodying Rhythm Marimba Residency at the Hotchkiss K8 – consisting of 3 in-school classes every day as well as 3 different after-school ensembles.
Saturday & Sunday, March 11 and 12th – Large Parade Puppet making workshop with artist Sonya Burke. 11am-4pm each day at the KVNF community room (enter through the alley) – come to all or part of the workshop (potluck lunch) – offered as a gift, donations appreciated. thelearningcouncil.org
Wednesday, March 22nd – Marimba Project Hotchkiss K8 Residency Performance – 2:00pm at the Hotchkiss K8.

Friday, March 24th – David and TLC brings Cellharmonics into the local schools. They will be performing at PES at 2:00pm

Ongoing:
NFV Community Parade Band continues on Monday Nights at the Hotchkiss High School Band Room 6:30-8:00pm. Bring your instrument. Now is a great time to start coming as the band is starting to work on a new repertoire and starting to think about parade season.

Dear Ones,

Happy New Year! We hope 2017 is a year of gentle growth and lots of musical inspiration for you. May we stay in our hearts and in truth in the moment and always return to love.

We had a full rehearsal for Musical Caravan with David Alderdice and Friends and it’s really exciting to be seeing the music take shape that we’ll be presenting very soon. See video. David has been hard at work picking tunes, putting together arrangements and creating an incredible set-list for this around the world musical experience. We do hope you’ll attend if you are in the area and inspired by new sounds and multi-cultural auditory travels. We have two concerts for your listening pleasure – one in Fruita, CO on January 20th and one in Paonia, CO on January 21st as part of the Blue Sage World Music Concert Series (tickets). We are also excited to be teaming up with the Learning Council to bring this troupe of fantastic musicians (percussion, viola, guitar, sousaphone, trombone, flute, marimba and more) into the local schools for musical outreach as part of this concert.

We have a Marimba Ensemble class for Adults on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 3:30-5:00pm at the Embodying Rhythm Percussion Studio in Hotchkiss (aka the Drum Room) with Arlyn Alderdice. Sliding scale $5-$15 per class (alternative currency and trades encouraged). Please register by replying to this email or calling 970-872-4238. We’re looking into our schedule for February classes and will keep you posted.

Dear Ones,

These are the darkest days of the year. We hope you are staying warm and allowing yourself to turn inward a bit as appropriate. It’s also a very busy time for David with five concerts in four days,  including a special duo set with concert pianist Susan Ellinger (see all the events listed below).

Preparations for the January 21st, 2017 Musical Caravan continue. Can you feel it getting closer? This is a musical evening dear to our hearts, we do hope you’ll attend if you are inspired by new sounds and multi-cultural travels.  tickets

Also we just added a 12/8 marimba workshop to the schedule on December 4th in Hotchkiss. Deepen your relationship to this fun and elusive time-feel and the inherent polyrhythms that are fundamental to the Zimbabwean marimba player while playing in ensemble. This workshop is open to participants who have marimba experience or are an intermediate player of another instrument. more information

David has been deeply immersed in arranging music for the January 21, 2017 Musical Caravan performance on the Blue Sage World Music Concert Series. The musicians got together this past weekend for the first rehearsal and it is a great crew and a super fun and broad repertoire. more info and tickets

October and November Update

Dear Ones, October and November are somewhat quieter months for us here at Embodying Rhythm, a time for settling into the fall schedule and weekly classes – see details below on the upcoming Adult Marimba Ensemble Class. Fall is a great time to get into a practice routine. We have a “November Practice Month” challenge to encourage everyone to deepen their relationship to music. Spend 15 minutes a day on practicing in November 2016. Take the challenge as you will or visit Arlyn’s blog (ladyarlyn.wordpress.com) to participate in the online forum – read tips and tricks and share your experiences.

Thank you for helping make our September events such a huge success. Musekiwa Chingodza’s concert and workshops were a great kick-off to this season’s World Music concerts and it was wonderful to bring the Marimba Project and Parade Band to the Harvest Festival. Feel free to check out the new video clips of both the Marimba Project as well as the Parade Band (links below).

The Celtic/classical/world-fusion band FEAST plays their interpretation of Chamber Music during their two-show Western Slope tour in mid-November. Marcin Arendt, violin, Kathryn Mientka, piano, David Alderdice, percussion, Kimberly Patterson, cello, and Benjamin DeKock, bass (details below).
