April Update

April 7, 2015 by Arlyn

Dear Ones,

We hope that you are doing well.

Life continues to be a full-time adventure as we say “yes” to the opportunities that present themselves (and put ourselves in the line of some opportunities that we’re excited about).

We’ve been in rehearsal and the music is looking good for the Altius Quartet with the NFV Embodying Rhythm Marimba Project Concert scheduled at the Blue Sage for April 18th. A string quartet, marimbas, percussion, singing, and more. It is fun to see the evolution of the Marimba Project and we look forward to sharing more music with you.

Our Blue Sage adult marimba classes have wrapped-up, thanks for playing! We are happy to offer a new 4-week adult marimba improvisation class, beginning mid-April for folks wanting to check out the marimba for the first time or to continue their marimba playing adventures. More details below. Also, several people are interested in smaller marimba classes that meet up in Hotchkiss, if that’s you, drop us an email and we can help coordinate you with some other fun folks.

We’re thankful that support from The Learning Council is going to launch the North Fork Valley Community Stage and Parade Band – Monday nights 6:30-8pm starting May 11th at the Hotchkiss High School Band room. Everyone with an instrument and the basic skills to play the instrument at least at a beginning level are welcome. A super-fun way to play music with other folks. More details below.

The World Perspective Concerts with David Alderdice, Marcin Arendt, Joseph Mentoni and Mitch Montealegre are re-scheduled for mid-May. More details below.

David has just accepted a new position at the Blue Sage – the Artistic Director of World Music. He will be in charge of putting together 3 world music concerts as an add-on track to the Classical Music Series. We’ll have more details on the concerts as they are scheduled and are excited to choose some world music projects to bring to the North Fork Valley.

blessings,
Arlyn and David

_____________

Weep and then smile.
Do not pretend to know something
You have not experienced.

There is a necessary dying,
Then Jesus is breathing again.

Very little grows on jagged rock.
Be ground.  Be crumbled.
So wild flowers will come up
Where you are.

You have been stony for too many years.
Try something different.  Surrender.
