And what is the natural way of things? ~Adyashanti

Start here,
pay attention.
Pay attention to the natural way of things.
Watch the clouds moving across the sky,
The way water flows around things
or the way a group of deer keep watch over one another.
Watch also the rise and fall of your own breath
and how connected it is to every sense organ.
And how your insides are connected to what appears outside
and how what is outside is connected to everything inside.

Summer Update

July 6, 2023 by ladyarlyn

Hello Dear Ones,

I hope this email finds you well.

I’m reminded of some words of wisdom a mentor shared with me some years ago about balance as I was feeling like everything was moving too quickly and I was becoming ‘unbalanced’. I paraphrase — ‘there’s balance like a rock or a mountain – steady, stable, stationary. But there’s also the balance of riding a bike – which requires movement, change, and constant re-adjustment. Don’t reach for the one when the moment is requiring the other.’

These summer days require the bike riding balance for me as we travel to the mountains, tend plants, dance and play music. Which type of balance do you need more of in your world?

Friday dance is going to continue through the summer with me leading the first two classes in July and Rose taking the second two. Sunday dance will resume October 1st.

This Sunday, July 9th, Mama Lingua is playing at the Stanton Lavender farm at 6pm – this is our last local Paonia show for the summer, so we hope you’ll come enjoy this one with us. Tickets.

David has 1:1 music lessons available starting with a variable schedule through the summer and a more steady teaching schedule beginning the week of August 14th. 970- 872- 4238

Also, starting the week of August 14th, Arlyn will have 1:1 coaching spots available. My scheduler is at Arlyn.youcanbookme.com if you want to jump on a discovery call and learn more about why I’m so into this coaching stuff. The short answer is that it helps us find the kind of balance that we need to live our best lives.

The boys Nature Connection backpacking trip is full, but there’s still some slots left in the girls trip July 17-20, for 11-15 year olds. more info

Starting in the fall we’ll be rolling out marimba classes, women’s drumming, and an online group coaching + movement on Tuesday mornings. More details soon, let’s stay in touch.

Take care,
Arlyn

“A rider balances a bike by steering. More accurately, a rider balances a bike by using steering to constantly keep the wheels centered under the center of mass of the bike. . .

Unless the mass of the bike is perfectly centered over the wheels (hint: the mass is essentially never perfectly balanced) gravity will always be leaning the bike towards the ground and the rider must constantly be counteracting these leans by turning the bike and generating centrifugal force in the opposite direction of the lean. . .

When a person rides a bike, the rider is constantly correcting for lean — constantly steering to move the wheels under the center of mass. The rider’s brain is making very rapid and precise adjustments without the rider consciously thinking about it. The ability to make these constant precise adjustments to maintain balance is the essential skill that young riders need to learn.

Once you learn how to balance a bike, it happens without thinking. It’s as intuitive as walking. Because balancing a bike feels so intuitive, sometimes we forget how frustrating it was to learn the skill in the first place.”  – Prevalo

April Update

March 30, 2023 by ladyarlyn

Dear Ones,
Very soon it is April.

Some days time feels very linear and marching forward with incredible haste. Some days I can feel the invention that time is and the way that my past is present in my body and my future is here too even though it is waiting to be discovered.

On the linear scope (though the purpose is to access the non-linear), this month we begin with a Live Music Movement as Medicine on April 2nd at 11am at the Hearth. We continue the Friday dance practice and Explore our Inspiration through the dance on the 23rd at the Yoga Tree in Hotchkiss and dance a special collaboration with the School of Magic on April 30th. Details below.

You’re invited to enjoy a Silent Film on April 22nd at the Paradise Theatre. The Adventures of Prince Achmed, with Live Musical Accompaniment featuring David Alderdice, Ben Bentele, Daniel Be & Cait Pope. Some of you saw a taste at the variety show, and it’s going to be amazing. Details below.

On April 28th Mama Lingua will perform at 6pm at Big B’s as part of their Hestival.

I don’t want to overload you with emails, so I invite you to take a moment now and write on your calendar any of the events you might want to attend.

many blessings,
Arlyn

More about Arlyn’s practice of Wayfinder Life Coaching

I’m still in training. I’m still learning more tools, but I’ve got the foundation in place and now it’s time to practice. And that’s a together thing, I need you; would you like to play? Try a free 1/2 hour session online or while walking by replying to this email.

I’m offering my hour-long and 1.5 hour sessions on a huge sliding scale through the summer. I’m offering pure talk coaching as well as sessions mixed with movement depending on what you need and what you feel will help you go deeper.

What it looks like – time for you to talk, listen to your body, sift through all the layers and go after the deepest most complete truth we can access together. Sometimes it looks like questioning beliefs that are keeping you playing small or spending time honoring sensations in parts of the body that haven’t been allowed time. What it isn’t – it’s not advice giving, it’s not me telling you what to do. More information.

“Arlyn is kind, thoughtful, and insightful. She has helped me tap into my own inner wisdom and creativity, and I always leave our coaching sessions feeling more grounded and clear about what I want. I end up with specific strategies and a plan of action – it’s very empowering.” – D.L.

“Before you try to train any animal, you need to get curious about it. What does it naturally enjoy? What strengths does it have? It’s always more effective to build on those strengths, rather than trying to get it to do something that’s not in its nature. . .

By the same token, resolutions that build on your natural inclinations will work better than simply demanding some random virtuous behavior. So be curious about your strengths. Observe and build on them. If you don’t love reading but want to learn more, try audiobooks. If you can’t stand the gym but want more fitness, take long walks outside. Nurture your true nature.” – Martha Beck “On Resolutions”
