October Update

September 28, 2022 by ladyarlyn

Dear Ones,

We hope you are well and gracefully crossing into autumn.

October for us starts with some jazz, gypsy swing, Latin, and blues at Big B’s with David Alderdice, Jon Hickam and David Snider.

In dance practice news, on October 2, David, Daniel B and Beth Quist join forces to bring us live music for a Movement as Medicine practice. Beth is bringing her hammered dulcimer and incredible voice and this will be a treat for sure. Friday morning dance practice will continue at the Hearth 9am all month (the 14th and 21st will be led by Rose Costello). October 21 and 22 Arlyn will be in Boulder, CO playing music for a Shakti Sisterhood gathering with Melissa Michaels. More info and registration.

And to top it off, Arlyn gets to open for Bread and Puppet Theater in Paonia with members of Mama Linuga on the 12th (Paonia Park) and play a two hour set with the full Mama Lingua band as part of Cider Fest on the 30th (Big B’s).

The full details are below.
Many blessings,

September Update

September 9, 2022 by ladyarlyn

Hello Dear Ones,

This September has us carrying everything out of our beloved music studio and moving it around to dig a trench for some radon mitigation. We hope that it is cleansing and allows for new creative pathways to open, because it’s feeling rather disruptive right now.

We hope that whatever it is that is shaking up your world right now is ultimately opening up new creative pathways and a deeper connection to your own heart.

September 16, 23 & 30 Arlyn will offer 3 morning dance practices 9am-10am with pre-recorded music at the Hearth, then we will gather again on October 2nd for a live-music Movement as Medicine, details below.

Additionally, both David and Arlyn will be playing music in some different groups at the Mountain Harvest Festival at the end of the month, details below.

Blessings,
Arlyn & David

“As you notice your ability to act on your own behalf in the present moment, the terrible helplessness and self-abandonment common to all trauma slowly yields to a sense of personal empowerment. In time, accessing your power through present-moment awareness can become your automatic reaction to negative situations. As you grow more practiced in noticing your triggers, offering yourself kindness and remembering that the power to heal your life is always available in the present moment, the situations that once set you off lose their explosive potential.” – Martha Beck

mid-August update

August 17, 2022 by ladyarlyn

Hello!

We hope you are doing well. Things here are full, working with the abundance of nature as our fruit trees begin to share their bounty and our cukes and zukes begin to produce food.

We are excited to be bringing you three events this week – David is playing at Pickin’ in the Park at 6pm on Thursday with Ben Benetele – we have a Friday morning 9am movement practice with pre-recorded music – and a Sunday 11am Movement as Medicine with our spectacular live band. Full details below.

With school starting and some schedule changes in other areas of our lives, we needed to scale back a touch, so we’ve postponed the Women’s Drumming class on August 21st and the Rhythm Playshop on August 26th. Please let us know if you were looking forward to these events, it helps us plan for the future.

New – if you would like to get one reminder text (the day before) for either the Movement as Medicine Sunday with live music events or the Women’s Drumming events, please text 970- 294 – 9393 or reply to this email with your phone number, indicate which list, and Arlyn can add you.

Blessings,
Arlyn & David

Author and activist Sarah Wilson shares some practices  —

– Go to your edge. Do what scares you and embrace discomfort daily. Use it to grow into your Big Life.
– Buy Less, Live More. Break the cycle of mindless consumption and get light with your life.
– Become a soul nerd. Embrace poetry, deep reading, art, and classical music to light up your intellect.
– Get ‘full-fat spiritual’. How to have an active practice – beyond the ‘lite’ ‘rainbows and unicorns’ – and use it to change the world.
– Hike. Just hike. Walking in nature reconnects us with ourselves, and with our true purpose.
– Practise wild activism. If you can get 3.5 per cent of a population to participate in sustained, non-violent protest, change happens. We create our better world.
